So far, the grapefruit diet seems to be working for many people. The real reason why it gives results is that the number of daily calories in this diet averages 800 per day, which is a bit lower than the average need of most of the people. Less calories intake means weight losing. It is that simple, so I don't see why somebody would bother with scientific proof, since they can lose a few pounds every week or so.
